Irish soda bread is easy to make. You do not require any baking skills to fix it. Within 35 to 45 minutes, your homemade bread is ready. No waiting for the dough to proof as there is no yeast. It fits any occasion.

For a nutty flavor and texture in your Irish bread, you should use wholemeal. The coarser the flour the better.

Low fat milk and butter works perfectly well for your bread. If you want your bread a little bit light, you may add an egg. However, milk and butter also helps moisten your bread as well as giving it some flavor. During preparation, you should lightly knead your dough. Irish soda bread requires minimal handling.Overkneading results to toughened, dry bread.

While cooking, do not depend on a timer. Use a skewer to check whether you bread is ready or not. If it comes out clean, remove it from the oven. Let it cool a bit, top it with butter, and enjoy it with your warm cup of coffee.

Wrap the Leftovers in plastic wraps. You only need to run it through a toaster the next time you are using it. As a matter of fact, like many other quick bread recipes, leftovers taste even better.

When buying cranberries, you should look for shiny, plump, and firm berries. They should be dark to light red.  Do not buy shriveled, moldy brown or discolored berries. Sort out any leaky berries before cooking as they may have an off flavor. Cook your cranberries only until they pop. If overcooked, they develop a bitter taste.

Dried cranberries are often used in many baked foods. They are usually most and full of flavor. They usually come pre sweetened thus add a sweet sour bite to your bread or cake.

Go ahead and bake your Irish soda bread.

This Irish soda bread recipe is the easy and fast to make. With this kind of bread, you don't have to wait hours on end for it to cook. If you are type who do not like the taste of yeast, this is your best pick. Baking soda, in this case, is used as a leavening agent instead of yeast.

Tips: Irish soda bread can dry out fast, make sure to cover it with aluminum foil to retain its soft crusty texture. Avoid too much kneading as this will toughen the dough.

Irish soda bread is believed to have originated from Ireland due to the rise of bicarbonate soda. A key component of the Irish soda bread is buttermilk. The lactic acid in buttermilk reacts with baking soda to produce bubbles. These bubbles help in combining the dough together which in turn makes the bread rise and expand.

Irish superstition: The Irish people used to cut across the top of the bread while baking to ward off evil spirits. Luckily, this superstition had a positive effect in allowing heat to reach through the thickest part of the bread.

These days this recipe has become more popular on St. Patrick's Day where many people make this soda bread.

Cranberries are known to be very nutritious fruits with lots of health benefits.
